Hi fellow Social Work majors!

Welcome back to a new academic year!! Hope you are all geared up for a new semester! This semester, Society of Social Work Students (SSWS) presents you with several upcoming exciting events!

As a new academic year begins, it is the time of the year whereby the 26th Executive Committee will be handing over to the 27th Executive Committee! SSWS is looking for people who have a hope and the heart to serve, to join the 27th Executive Committee! So what are you waiting for? Nomination will close on 23rd August 2013.


Election of the 27th Executive Committee will take place during the Social Work Family Gathering and Annual General Meeting! All Social Work majors present at the AGM will be involved in electing the new committee! ( : In addition, through this event, we hope to provide you a greater understanding of the work of SSWS, and to bond the Social Work majors as well as the freshmen who attended the SSWS orientation camp. Our 2nd upcoming event will be a fundraising event! This is regarding Project Poverty Living Around You (PLAY), which SSWS has adopted.  Project PLAY is a project initiated by Social Work undergraduates, which includes a theatre production and an exhibition to tackle the issue of poverty in Singapore. Hence, the objective of this event is to raise funds through the collection of newspaper so as to launch this project. We really hope you could join us in our Newspaper Collection / Flyer Distribution to raise funds! You can sign up at the link below:

Last but not least, our very own Social Work majors have piloted the first Inter-Professional Education (IPE) together with the Nursing Faculty students and are currently embarking on this exciting journey in implementing a project entitled Project H3: Heads, Hands, Hearts! It aims to foster working relationships among Social Work and Nursing students, to enable students to see patients using a person-in-environment perspective and to educate students on effective communication with patients from different backgrounds. H3 will last over 2 days, 31st August and 7th September 2013:

Day 1:
·      Part 1: Walk-A-Mile, a poverty simulation game which participants will assume roles play in induced real life scenarios and learn to conduct decision making that would enhance their health given their situation.
·      Part 2: Talks by professionals in the field

Day 2 (AM):
·      Visiting of older adults in a Senior Activity Centre (SAC).
